Infrastructure Manager


The purpose of the Infrastructure Manager role is to manage and support the day-to-day IT needs of the business and develop the IT infrastructure, both on premises and remotely, to support the strategic objectives of HGEM.

The IM role:

  • Is supported by and responsible for the following roles: Support Technician
  • Is supported by the Database Administrator
  • Liaises directly with the following teams: Software Development, Business Intelligence


  • Being responsible for infrastructure (PCs, Servers, Network devices, Telephone Systems, etc) and their constant improvement and replacement when reaching their end of life
  • 1st/2nd/3rd line support for office based and remote workers
  • Maintenance of Disaster Recovery plan
  • Purchasing of technical hardware and software
  • Identify and suggest areas for improving service quality of HGEM applications in production
  • Optimise the configuration of machines and databases (working closely with Software Developers and Database Administrator)
  • To facilitate and develop the software release process, increasing automation as much as possible
  • To monitor and manage the costs associated with infrastructure
  • To set up and maintain monitoring of systems and applications, to ensure availability and performance
  • To ensure that we are compliant in terms of licensing
  • To negotiate Service Level Agreements with the business and monitor these to ensure they are delivered
  • To arrange proportionate remote support outside the core business hours (which are 09:00-17:30 Monday - Friday)


  • Functional knowledge of SQL (not db design standard but the ability to do routine maintenance independently would be good)
  • Kubernetes / docker management and deployment (as of 2019, we recognise that these tools are new, and some training may be required)
  • Certificates (lifecycle management for ssl/tls and signing certs)
  • Software licencing management
  • Azure platform familiarity (they should have at least worked with it as part of a production environment)
  • Windows server 2012r2 and more recent (particular emphasis on upgrading OS versions)
  • Powershell scripting
  • Hyper-V management
  • Backup management (Azure backup server (MABS) experience highly useful)
  • Office 365 management
  • Modern Sharepoint online & Microsoft Teams management *
  • Hybrid (on premise / Azure AD) domain management
  • Group policy management
  • Monitoring systems concepts (specific product experience is not required)
  • Networking concepts and appliances (VNets, vpns and wifi) (routers, firewalls and switches) *
  • Experience of desktop support and ticket management
  • Troubleshooting
